Thesis Project

The master thesis project is the last study unit of the MSc AM programs. It is an individual in-depth research with sufficient academic content in the specific field of expertise chosen by the student and needs approval beforehand from the thesis supervisor. A thesis project with the code WI5005EXT must be executed outside DIAM, in a suitable research institute or company. The nominal duration of a thesis project is 8 to 9 months (45 ECTS).

The student carries out the thesis project independently, with the guidance of one or more thesis supervisors, at least one of them from the scientific staff of Delft University of Technology, and under the responsibility of the full or associate professor who approved the IEP.

The thesis committee assesses the thesis and the defense on the following criteria:

- quality of work: novelty, volume, grasp, methodology, publishable;

- personal performance: autonomy, planning, creativity, attitude;

- quality of thesis report: clarity, organisation, argumentation;

- oral presentation and defense: clarity, focus, relevance, discussion.

Weighting of assessment:

- Quality of the work (research) (40% weight of the final grade),

- Performance (30%),

- Report (20%)

- Presentation en defence (10%).

Resit/ Repair opportunities:

In case of an insufficient result, repair opportunities may be offered in accordance with TER Implementation Regulations Art 5, sub 5., for:

- Report: resubmit deliverable

- Defense: resit presentation and defense

Depending on the planning of the student it might happen that it is not possible to repair the report or the presentation within the same academic year.
