New technologies, such as hydrogene, AI, robotics, data analytics, etc, provide great potential for large firms and public organizations. The speed by which these technologies develop and the expertise that is needed pose a challenge for these organizations to follow and exploit the potential. Although the have more financial capital, better access to markets, and more technological knowledge, we often see that large firms and public organizations work with startups to investigate the potential of the new technologies for their business.
In this course, we focus on the strategies that large firms and public organizations use to engage startups, experiment with new technologies and co-create together to develop new business opportunities. We will investigate the organizational settings for collaboration and we will pay specific attention to the emergence of academic start-ups and how large firms and public organizations provide incubation facilities and financial support (venture capital) to engage with these startups to renew themselves.
This course examines the various forms of corporate entrepreneurship and the relationship with their technology strategy in particular. You will develop knowledge and skills to analyze strategic situations and design the most appropriate solutions in terms of corporate entrepreneurship strategy and startup engagement.
Summary
This course examines how large firms and public organizations engage with startups to tap into new technologies to open new markets based on renewed business models.
You will develop knowledge and skills to analyse strategic situations of existing organizations and how they innovate by engaging startups. The course provides an eye on corporate startup engagement from both the large organization and startup perspective.
