Beschrijving

As unexpected disruptions due to climate change, societal fragmentation, geopolitical conflict, and infectious diseases are becoming more prominent, ensuring the resilience of socio-technical-environmental systems is more significant than ever. This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand, assess, and enhance the resilience of various interconnected systems in the face of these challenges. The course overviews the key components of contemporary resilience thinking, which is important to assess and enhance the resilience of socio-technical-environmental systems in various domains such as water, transportation, energy, ethics, and urban. Lectures are tailored for students from various disciplines and programs to understand and apply resilience principles to their own fields: the course is designed to provide opportunities for participants to identify and address resilience challenges within their own domain. This course will incorporate guest lectures from experts and academics in various fields who have successfully applied resilience principles in their work to provide valuable insights for students. Thus, the course is structured as a blended course, consisting of in-class lectures with participants actively involved in discussions and individual and group assignments. For the course's final assessment, the participants will work in groups to develop a mini literature review on the resilience of socio-technical-environmental systems and develop an individual project report for evaluating the resilience of socio-technical-environmental systems. Students will develop case studies from their selected domain perspective. The participants will get opportunities to present and receive feedback on their assignments in class and via peer reviews.
