Mathematics for Quantum Physics
Beschrijving
This course is an introduction to the math necessary to follow courses on quantum mechanics.
Topics include: complex numbers, calculus, coordinate systems, linear algebra including Hilbert spaces, second order differential equations.
Toetsing
The assessment concerns the different subjects within calculus, analysis, and linear algebra addressed in the course. Knowledge and problem-solving skills will be assessed based on the potential of the student to solve problems in these areas.
The course will be assessed through three weekly tests.
In order to pass the course, you need to get a passing grade for each minitest (i.e. a grade >=5.75 that rounds to 6.0). Your final grade will then be the average of the three minitests.
If you fail one or more minitests, you have the following options:
If you fail only one minitest, you may retake this minitest during the resit. You pass with a passing grade for the retaken minitest, and the final grade is the average over all passed minitests and the passed retaken minitest.
Alternatively, you can retake the whole course (contents of all minitests) during the resit. The final grade is then the grade of the full retakeIf you fail two or three minitests, you may retake the whole course during the resit. The final grade is then the grade of the full retake
