Lattices in higher dimensions: crystal structure, unit cells, basis, reciprocal space, Brillouin zone, X-ray diffraction.
Tight-binding and nearly-free electron models in 2D and 3D.
Semiconductors: charge balance, doping, semiconductor devices.
Toetsing
3 bonus minitests and a final exam, with the grade determined according to the formula F + (M_1 + M_2) * (10 - F) / 50, with F being the exam grade, and M_1 and M_2 the best two minitest grades. If the final exam score is 0, the minitests give 2 bonus points, and if the final exam score is 10, the minitests give 0 bonus points. The minitests count towards the resit score if the minitest score is higher than that of the resit exam.
