Beschrijving

Radiotherapy and its technologies will be explained during this course, as well as the clinical indications.

The following topics will be covered in depth:

  • Physics of ionizing radiation

  • Technology of radiotherapy

  • Target delineation and multi-modality imaging

  • Dose calculation using analytical and Monte Carlo schemes

  • Treatment planning: dose shaping and plan optimization

  • Modalities: IMRT, VMAT, Cyber-Knife, Proton therapy

  • Role of radiotherapy in oncology

  • Main clinical treatment sites: aims, approaches, outcome

  • Clinical outcome: tumor control, risk of complication

  • Dose-effect modelling

  • Radiobiology

  • Research and challenges in radiotherapy

Toetsing

The final grade consists of:

  • Written examination (50%)

  • Group assignments: technical exercises, paper and presentation, weighted with individual input. (50%)
