Radiation Therapy
Beschrijving
Radiotherapy and its technologies will be explained during this course, as well as the clinical indications.
The following topics will be covered in depth:
Physics of ionizing radiation
Technology of radiotherapy
Target delineation and multi-modality imaging
Dose calculation using analytical and Monte Carlo schemes
Treatment planning: dose shaping and plan optimization
Modalities: IMRT, VMAT, Cyber-Knife, Proton therapy
Role of radiotherapy in oncology
Main clinical treatment sites: aims, approaches, outcome
Clinical outcome: tumor control, risk of complication
Dose-effect modelling
Radiobiology
Research and challenges in radiotherapy
Toetsing
The final grade consists of:
Written examination (50%)
Group assignments: technical exercises, paper and presentation, weighted with individual input. (50%)
