TIL Research Project

Note: TIL40202-20 TIL Research project will be replaced by TIL5055 TIL Thesis Preparation. In Q1 25-26 TIL4020-20 TIL Research Project will be offered for the last time. TIL5055 TIL Thesis Preparation will be offered every quarter from Q2 25-26.

This course teaches TIL students how to design and manage scientific research in the TIL domain. TIL students will become Master of Science. This means that they have to be able to do and manage scientific research. However, what is scientific research actually? What is the difference between scientific research and consultancy research? What is the role of scientific theory (or theories) in scientific research? What is the role of scientific literature in scientific research? In this course these kinds of questions are addressed using literature and insights from teachers experienced in doing TIL related research and from fellow TIL-students who just finished their master thesis. In this course also writing a good quality conclusion and discussion section is taught.

Students have to write individually a scientific research proposal of around ten pages including scientific gap identified, research question(s), methods, literature review, scoping and planning. They may choose their own research related to the TIL domain. They have to use at least ten peer reviewed scientific papers. They have to write a conclusion and discussion section related to their literature review part. This conclusion and discussion section will also be assessed with a grade.

Two grades will be given. The full research proposal is graded (80%), and the conclusion/discussion section of the literature review also (20%).The requirements for the marks will be made clear to the students beforehand based on a rubric. The two parts (80/20%) should each be at least 5.0 and the weighted average of both parts >5.75 to pass.
