What does it take to be an entrepreneur?

An entrepreneurial mindset is one that is able to manage risk, identify opportunities and finally, innovate, develop and execute ideas that are commercially viable and feasible.

In the course Entrepreneurial Thinking you will explore and apply different theories and practices that contribute to your ability to think and act more entrepreneurially. More specifically, you will learn about and reflect on individual entrepreneurial traits, understand the concept of, and conduct riskiest assumption tests, learn how to evaluate the desirability, feasibility and viability of a proposed idea. Additionally, you will dive into the theories of entrepreneurial learning.

It is your job to translate the theories discussed and practiced in class and make them applicable to your project. How entrepreneurial is your project? And how can you make it more entrepreneurial? As such, it is expected that you apply what you have learnt in this course to the projects of your fieldwork period in the Global South.

Toetsing

It is your job to explore how the theories discussed and practised in class can help you enhance your entrepreneurial capabilities at an individual and group level. The experiences and lessons learnt in class will help you develop and execute more effective solutions for the project challenge you've been assigned to. As such, you are expected to apply what you have learned in this course to your project and ensure that it is an entrepreneurial project and not just charity. The following assessment has been designed to help you embed the theories from class into yourself and your team.

Note: You must pass each assessment with a minimum 'Adequate' and a total grade 5.8 to pass the course. Partial grades can be retaken but only be "repaired" to a maximum grade of 6. All partial grades are valid for one academic year.

During this course you will be assessed at both the individual and at the group level.

There is a pass/fail requirement relating to attendance. Students who miss more than 1 class will be required to complete an individual make-up assignment for each of the classes you've been absent. There is no deduction if you're absent due to extenuating circumstances, but we will need a doctor's note, approval of your tutor, or equivalent as justification. Students are expected to arrive on time. Arriving more than 5 minutes late counts as missing the class.

The individual assessment (30%) consists of an individual essay about a topic related to the concept of Entrepreneurial Thinking.

For the group grade (70%), you will make a group report (50%) and an final pitch video (20%) to 'sell' your entrepreneurial project and show how this project is innovative and can best be of value according to you.
