Kwantitatieve modellen voor transport
Beschrijving
Many transportation problems are tackled with quantitative methods, due to the necessity for the decision-makers to quantify relevant aspects: service frequencies, sequence of visits, costs, timings, etc. In this course, we will propose three fundamental methodologies in the transport domain to give answers to problems related to passengers mobility and freight transport.
Discrete choice modelling will be proposed to solve passengers mobility related problems. The goal is to understand how individuals choose between different transport options based on a set of features and related utility functions.
Simulation and mixed-integer linear programming models will be studied to model both operational and strategic decisions related to freight transport. The proposed models are extensively used in container transport, parcel delivery, and trucking problems. Commercial optimization and simulation software will be used to solve the models and analyse the solutions.
