Interconnected Engineering Systems
Beschrijving
Internet is a global system that has interconnected various kinds of systems and services worldwide. This course analyzes the architecture and core technologies of the Internet from systemic and interdisciplinary perspectives. As a hands-on oriented course, we learn network programming (using python) and apply the learned programming skills in practical settings. Attention is paid to the increasing importance of interconnected environments, in particular the networking of engineering systems and services through digital platforms. We analyse the concept of interconnected engineering systems on the basis of concrete cases, e.g., connected cars, cyber-physical systems, as means to illustrate the complex interactions of technology and society. In addition, a number of modern development and research themes will be discussed for the evolution of distributed information and communication systems, e.g., new networking and computing techniques for large-scale deployment of the Internet of Things (IoT). On top of the key technologies, we consider the social context to which the high expectations of the future Internet technologies need to tackle in terms of security, privacy risks.
