Analyse van het Transportsysteem
Beschrijving
The objective of this course is to learn to understand and analyse transport systems. Transport systems are crucial for our daily activities and quality of our lives as they ensure mobility, accessibility, and safety for people and companies and have enormous importance for the economy. At the same time, they are also associated with problems in the environment, traffic safety, and congestion. It is essential to view the current transport system in the context of both its positive and negative impacts on the environment, health, and safety. Policy makers and researchers often ask: how can we increase the accessibility that the transport system provides without exacerbating the problems of the system? Better still: how can we improve accessibility and at the same time solve congestion, environmental, safety, and health problems?
In this course you will learn to analyse challenging policy questions such as the above. You will learn about the components of the transport system: technology (roads, cars, etc.), the behaviour of people and companies, and spatial developments. You will learn how these elements depend on each other (using conceptual models), and how together they lead to positive and negative transport system effects. Finally, you will learn computation techniques and models that you can use to quantitatively estimate the impacts of any transport policy on environment (in particular, air quality), traffic safety, accessibility, and public health.
