QUARTER 2

A series of lectures will provide you with the background knowledge of electricity and heating systems necessary to complete the project.
The lectures cover the following topics:

  • Fundamentals of power engineering.

  • Distributed renewable electricity generation (solar and wind).

  • Battery energy storage.

  • Fundamentals of geothermal heat generation.

  • Fundamentals of heat storage.

  • Economic and environmental aspects of energy systems.

QUARTER 3

You will work in groups to design and model an integrated energy (electricity + heat) system.
The project is divided into three phases:

  1. Design and modelling of the electricity and heat generation sub-systems.

  2. Design and modelling of the electricity and heat storage sub-systems.

  3. Integration of the sub-systems and design of a system control strategy.

QUARTER 4

You will perform an economic and environmental analysis of the system and prepare a scientific report summarising the project's main results.

Toetsing

QUARTER 2

In Q2, you will:

  • Complete a series of individual formative assignments to prepare you for the system integration project.

  • Submit an individual summative assignment focused on energy storage.

QUARTER 3

In Q3, you will:

  • Submit two intermediate reports (formative assessment).

  • Peer review two other team's intermediate reports (summative assessment).

  • Deliver an oral presentation with the main project results (summative assessment).

QUARTER 4

In Q4, you will submit a final report including all steps and results of the project (summative assessment).
The final grade will be calculated as follows:

  • 10% individual assignment.

  • 10% peer reviews.

  • 30% oral presentation.

  • 50% final report.

Individual grades will be adjusted following an intra-team peer review (conducted with BuddyCheck) assessing each member's contributions to the group's work.

In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations.
