Communication for Engineers
Beschrijving
The course Communication for Engineers consists of two parts: Oral Presentations in Q2 (1EC) and Technical Writing in Q4 (2 EC).
Oral Presentations
The work of modern engineers can only be effective when it is communicated convincingly. In Oral Presentations, students learn how to prepare and deliver convincing and compelling presentations, geared towards a specific audience.
The six lectures have the character of workshops in which students work on exercises and prepared individual and group presentations. Through recordings and the exchange of feedback, students are able to improve their presentation skills. Therefore, attendance is mandatory.
Technical Writing
Modern engineers are required to possess excellent communication skills. Not only do they need to know their field of study, but they also need to know how to communicate this to other experts, decision-makers, and implementers. They need to be able to write accessible, persuasive technical reports and proposals and to use a correct tone in professional correspondence.
In this course, students in groups write a report on their research in the SIP project. The course focuses on writing technical reports, with an emphasis on both the quality of the text and the writing process.
The five lectures and a teacher's consultation will be used for instruction, feedback, and practice. Since the course equals 2EC or 56 hours per student, students will have to put in a significant amount of time outside the classroom to pass this course. Students will be required to hand in several assignments while they are working on their main assignment. Attendance is mandatory.
