Heating and Cooling Grids

In this course all the concepts needed for planning, design, construction and operation of heating and cooling grids are covered. In this course you will learn the following topics:
-The need for DHN and the classification of various types of DHNs.
-Costs, planning and construction of DHN
-Underground space requirements for DHN
-Applicable standards/guidelines
-Water quality, clogging, leak detection, heat exchange/delivery.
-Hydraulic design, control valves and pumps, water hammer
-Structural and thermal design, thermal expansion, ground friction,
-Design of substations in different DHNs.
-Insulation, Heat exchange with surroundings
-Temperature levels and Control and operation
Toetsing
Formative assessment: 2 assignments with answers for self-study. Each of the assignments is discussed during workshop sessions
Summative assessment:
-Written exam (50% of grade)
-Group assignment with report showing a design and simulation of DHN (50% of grade).
Final grade calculation: (0.5 * written exam + 0.5 * group assignment)
Resit/ Repair opportunities:
In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations, for:
-Written exam: resit Q5
-Group assignment: re-submit assignment
