Thermochemistry of Biomass Conversion
Beschrijving
In this course you will learn about the following aspects of biomass conversion based on thermo-chemical conversion technologies.
- Biomass Characterisation (biomass types, properties, analyses)
- Pretreatment (harvesting, size reduction, drying, torrefaction)
- Thermochemical conversion (combustion, gasification, pyrolysis and hydrothermal processing; reactor types)
- Transportation fuels / biorefinery
- Reactor Engineering (mass & mole balances, ideal reactors)
- Process design (structured design approach, economics)
Toetsing
The final grade of the course consists of the following components:
* the solution to the (up to three) minor assignments (team work) (40%)
* a larger final assignment (team work); (50%)
* evaluation of the final assignment's presentation; (10%)
Final grade calculation: (0.4 * minor group assignments) + (0.5 * larger group assignemtn) + (0.1 * presentation)
Resit/ Repair opportunities:
In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations, for:
* minor assignments: submit 1 new minor assignment
* lagers assignment: resubmit report
* Presentation: resit (new presentation)
