Master Thesis Research Design

Students select a master thesis subject that has societal relevance and addresses an academic knowledge gap based on a structured literature review in order. To address (part of) the knowledge gap, the student develops a structured, academic research proposal. This includes formulating a main research question, selecting an appropriate research approach and formulating sub questions, selecting research methods and/or modelling techniques and data analysis tools. The project proposal is finalized by a research flow diagram and a thesis project planning.

During the course, the student will read and analyze approx. 10 scientific articles and conducts a peer-review of partial draft chapters and the final research proposal of peers in the course.

Final deliverables:

• A research proposal in a predefined format. In order to pass and get access to the Master Thesis Project, this deliverable needs to be graded as sufficient (>= 5.75). It will be graded according to a fixed list of criteria;

• Peer reviews as formative assignments that will be assessed by peers;

  All assignments during the course have to be handed in before the set deadlines, and have to comply with the assessment criteria.
