Agent-based Modelling

This course has two focus points: 1. agent-based modelling and 2. complex adaptive systems theory for ABM.

Firstly, you will develop agent-based modelling skills by creating an agent-based model in a small group. This course is not meant as an introduction to basic programming, or a thorough introduction to Python/Mesa, but will rather focus on understanding the concepts of agent-based modelling and how model design choices affect the model created and how it can be used. Additional reading materials are provided for self-study in getting up to speed in basic programming, Python, and Mesa, as well as refresher exercises in the practical sessions. There will be a weekly lecture focused on agent-based modelling theory. In addition, there will be a weekly practical session focused on further developing your agent-based modelling skills.

Secondly, there will be weekly lectures focusing on complex adaptive systems theory for agent-based models. Different characteristics of these systems, theoretical concepts and their applications will be discussed. Further reading will be offered to broaden your view and deepen your understanding.
