Knowledge Representation and Symbolic Reasoning

FaculteitMechanical Engineering
NiveauMaster
Studiejaar2025-2026

Beschrijving

This course provides an overview of knowledge representation and reasoning (KRR) techniques and their practical application in robotics, to support the programming of the robots behaviour with reasoning using symbolic knowledge about the mission tasks, its capabilities and its environment. The course will use existing programming frameworks such as ROS to practice using the KRR methods in realistic robotic systems. From the beginning, the focus will be on applying the theory to solve robotic problems, with practical assignments every week that will contribute to the final course project.

Week 1: Introduction to Knowledge Representation and Reasoning

Week 2: Ontologies

Week 3: Graph-based methods

Week 4: First-order, modal and multimodal logics

Week 5: Planning with PDDL

Week 6: Guest lecture

Week 7, 8: Hands-on to complete the course project
