Master Thesis QIST with Business Orientation

FaculteitTechnische Natuurwetenschappen
NiveauMaster
Studiejaar2025-2026

Beschrijving

The master thesis project is the last study unit of the MSc QIST programme. It is an individual in-depth research project in the field of quantum science or quantum engineering. The project needs sufficient academic content in the specific field approved by the thesis supervisor from the QIST greenlist. The project needs to be approved by the programme coordinator through the MEP application form.

The thesis project may be executed within a company affiliated to a research program at TU Delft or Leiden University, or in an affiliated research institute or company. The nominal duration of a thesis project is 21 weeks (30 EC).

The student carries out the thesis project independently, with the guidance of one or more thesis supervisors, at least one of them from the scientific staff of Delft University of Technology or Leiden University. If the student is located at the company, a UNL contract needs to be signed. All information is available on the QIST Brightspace page.

Toetsing

The assessment of the student is based on the learning goals of the master's thesis project rather than on whether the planned research outcome has been realized. The final assessment consists of one mark, based on:

- Scientific knowledge and understanding

- Method and approach

- Report

- Presentation and defense

- Competences

A detailed grading scheme is available in Brightspace organization "Eindprojecten Administratie TNW / Thesis Office Applied Sciences" (https://brightspace-cc.tudelft.nl/course/1826/eindprojecten-administratie-tnw--thesis-office-applied-sciences).

On behalf of the Board of Examiners, the responsible supervisor composes a suitable assessment committee. The committee consists of at least three examiners, all members of the scientific staff of research groups that contribute to the master's degree programme. The members of the assessment committee come from at least two different sections of the degree programme, at least one of the members belongs to the teaching staff of the degree programme (of a course other than the thesis project), and at least one of them is a full professor or an associate professor.
