QIST students either follow the present Multidisciplinary Team Project course (QIST4500, 15EC) or Joint Interdisciplinary Project (15EC). They can only apply for either one of these two courses.

The field of quantum technology promises many useful applications in society. Implementing these innovations requires interdisciplinary expertise and teamwork. The goal of the Multidisciplinary Team Project is for interdisciplinary teams of students to apply concepts from different fields in order to tackle a quantum-related challenge in an academic setting. While each student can employ their individual competences in the project, individual team members should be able to explain each other’s contributions.

Toetsing

The course’s summative assessment is done through:

  • Problem statement: pass/fail given at the end of phase 1 (end of week 2)

  • Final grade: at the end of phase 3 (end of week 10)

    • Final report: 40%

    • Presentation and Q&A: 60%

The final report is a max. 30-page document (appendices not included) summarizing the results of the project. It is expected to cover the problem setting and formulate a problem statement. The required theoretical knowledge and methods used in the project should be explained. The final outcome of the project is expected to be documented and evaluated along the criteria defined in the problem statement phase. The conclusions of the report should also include recommendations for future work. The report is also expected to contain a 1-page section about the lessons learnt in working as a team.

The final presentation is a 30-minute oral presentation done by the entire group, using a visual support such as slides. It is not expected to give an exhaustive account of the different aspects of the project, but rather to focus on its final outcome. The problem setting and problem statement need to be presented, and an overall account of the final outcome or product of the project is expected, which includes its evaluation alongside the criteria defined in phase 1. The contents of the presentation then weigh a lot in its assessment, even if part of the assessment covers communication skills.
After the presentation, questions from the audience and assessment committee are asked to the group. Each group member is expected to be able to answer any of the questions.

A detailed grading rubric is provided during the course.

By default, each member of a group is assigned the same grade, but individual grades can be given in exceptional circumstances.
