Offshore Geotechnical Engineering

The course addresses relevant topics in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering related to offshore energy harvesting, including renewables and oil & gas. The core subject is the analysis and design of foundation systems for offshore structures. The course will start with an in-depth introduction to soil behaviour, including the response of soils to environmental cyclic loading. Then, essential concepts about marine site investigation are discussed and followed by an introduction to soil-foundation-structure interaction effects. Then the course is brought to a conclusion by addressing the analysis/design of both shallow and deep offshore foundations.
