This course concerns the numerical methods that can be used to analyse offshore en dredging engineering systems (structures and operations). During this course, you are trained to perform a numerical experiment, including the design of algorithms. Following through the different steps of study design, pre-analysis, data collection, post-analysis, validation and interpretation, you gain experience in drawing relevant conclusions and reflecting critically on the research activities performed.

After a training on relevant numerical methods, covering both computational fluid and structural dynamics, you will conduct a numerical experiment using your self-developed algorithm in Python or Matlab. Following the FAIR principles, you will learn how to analyse and visualize your obtained data to draw scientifically relevant conclusions.

The course offers multiple numerical assignments to conduct in small groups. You can express your motivated preference for a specific assignment through the individual reflection portfolio of the course OE44195. Your allocation to a specific assignment will be based on both your motivation and practical considerations.

Toetsing

The course consists of group work that covers Study goals 1-4. The group work will be assessed based on a final report (67%), and a QenA (33%). The QenA will be preceded by a short presentation (10-15 minutes), and will result in an individual grade.

In order to pass the course, both the report and the QenA require a minimum grade of 5.8. The QenA requires your active participation to receive a grade.

In case the final report is graded lower than 5.8, your group has the opportunity to submit an updated report within the communicated time frame. Updated reports cannot receive a grade higher than 5.8. If your grade for the QenA is lower than 5.8, you have the opportunity of a second individual QenA.

Your performance on study goals 5-7 is expressed in an individual reflection portfolio, which will be assessed in the course OE44195.

Any deviation from the described assessment procedure requires approval from the Board of Examiners.
