A Primer in Neuroscience

NB3015 is a flip-the-classroom experience, with emphasis on developing the ability to read and grasp essentials from neuroscience topics, while emphasizing a mechanistic understanding of brain function. We will be reading chapters from "Principles of Neuroscience" (5th Edition) and groups of students create explainer videos about them in a pre-established sequence. These videos are then presented in class and peer reviewed.

Week 3. Sensation and Perception

Week 4. Sensorimotor Behavior (Student Presentations)

Week 5. Cognition (Student Presentations)

PS. Though not mandatory, NB3014 (Computational Neuroscience) is a helpful pre-requisite.

1. The assessment consists of one peer reviewed video presentation on a chosen topic and peer reviews.

2. There is no exam.

3. The assignment resit consists of delivering a VIDEO PRESENTATION and delivering weekly assignments (review questions for all other weekly videos).

3.a. The video presentation is graded via peer review.

3.b. Videos can be presented as groups, but peer reviews are delivered individually.

3.c The deadline for the assignment resit is week 5.3. Students must contact the teacher no later than Monday of week 5.2 to register for the resit opportunity.

4. The final grade is composed as follows: VIDEO presentation (1/5) and peer reviews (4/5). The final grade is Pass/Fail.

5. No registration for exam is needed.

6. Students needing to turn work in late due to personal circumstances must contact the Academic Counsellor prior to turning it in to make arrangements. Other late work might not be graded.
