Statistics

This course covers the basics of probability theory and statistics.

Topics in probability include discrete and continuous random variables, probability distributions, stochastic independence, joint distributions, sums and functions of random variables, expectation, variance and covariance, law of large numbers, and central limit theorem.

Topics in statistics include random samples and sample distributions, estimators (bias, error, and maximum likelihood), least squares and confidence intervals for the average of normally distributed data with known or unknown variance and hypothesis tests.

Formative feedback is provided by the teacher/TAs during the exercise classes.

1. The summative assessment consists of: a 2h long written exam

4. The final grade is entirely made by the grade of the exam
5. Registration for exams is done via: Osiris

6. Students needing to turn work in late due to personal circumstances must contact the Academic Counsellor prior to turning it in to make arrangements. Other late work might not be graded.
