Beschrijving

This course represents the interface between chemistry and biology and studies life at a molecular level. Our knowledge about the molecular composition of cells and the complex network of chemical reactions that take place within them is expanding rapidly.
In this course you will study the molecular composition of cells and the major metabolic pathways involved, with special emphasis will on the structure and function of enzymes and bioenergetics. This course also teaches the basic determinants and elements of biomolecular structure and dynamics, structure-function relations, and current methods in structure determination, with a focus on proteins and their complexes with other biomolecules. It furthermore provides practical information on how to navigate the publicly available structural databases and how to interpret, analyze and optimally visualize biomolecular structures.
