Design of Complex Specials

This course will focus on modern design and engineering approaches and tools for complex marine vessels. This course moves beyond the traditional point based design and the design spiral method and covers both theory and application of modern techniques designed to explore the relationships between requirements elucidation, design generation, design analysis, and design selection. In addition to lecture material, students will also participate in a substantial collaborative design project. Students will develop the preliminary design of a small fleet of offshore wind service vessels for the North Sea in a design team of 6 students taking into account some of the advanced design techniques introduced in the course.
