Beschrijving

The course aims at training students in performing material and process selection by using objective and quantitative criteria. A substantial part of the course consists of a compilation of actual cases from and presented by the Dutch High Tech industry (ASML, Ceratec, Euro-Techniek, Hittech, Ramlab, Thermo Fisher, VDL ETG, Tata Steel). TU lecturers subsequently provide further insight into the related materials science background and selection method. Cases encompass: additive manufacturing, steel and metal alloys, titanium, metallic glasses, coatings, ceramics, polymers. Themes: Materials in design - Engineering materials and their properties - High tech applications - Materials selection - Process selection - Case studies - Relation microstructure / technical properties / processing / design - Cost Considerations - Environmental Impact - Data sources.
