Steel Science

This course is based on assignments, covering mainly the following topics:

- Fe-C equilibrium and plain carbon steels

- Fe-C-X equilibrium and alloyed steels

- Bainite and acicular ferrite

- Formation and properties of martensite

- Martensite tempering

- Thermomechanical processing

- Embrittlement and fracture

- Simulations at the micro- and atomic-scale for steel research

- Steels for several applications.

Assignments on provided scientific articles (80% grade) and presentation (20%). It is important to provide the assignments timely, otherwise the grade of the assignment has a penalty, as indicated in Brightspace.

Participation in the class discussions is strongly advised and will be included in the final assessment of the course (+/- 1 point of the final grade).

There is no exam.
