Leadership and Technology Management

Leadership and management in the context of high technology firms and digital business are the key theme of this course. The core of successful management in technology-based environments is the recognition of the value of employees for organizational success. Selection, development and performance management of employees are core activities of personnel management. Such practices are no longer seen as tasks that are the responsibility of a separate personnel department, but they become part of top management’s personnel strategy. Line managers are increasingly expected to play an active role in implementing management policies and practices. Leadership appears to be a critical determinant of organizational effectiveness whether we are discussing a football team, an army, a street gang or a multinational corporation. Leadership is the subject of intense academic research and debate and journalistic commentary. In this course we will highlight the critical roles of leadership on different levels for the success of technology-based companies.

Individual digital final examination.
The final digital exam will be a closed book exam on the content of this course (text book, slides, and articles) and will be administered through Ans. Samples of these essay questions will be provided both on Brightspace and during the course. Hence, students who take the course seriously and structurally prepare the literature and assignments will be very likely to pass the exam. The exam will consist of Open Questions. A minimum grade of 5.8 in the exam is necessary for a passing this course.

A mandatory group assignment is also part of the course. Although this assignment is not graded it is a prerequisite for passing the exam. Students who did the assignment but wish or need to re-take the exam in the next academic year(s) are exempted from doing the assignment again.
