Financial Management

Summary

This course examines how corporations make financial decisions. It is intended to provide students from technical and engineering backgrounds with a foundational understanding of financial management principles.

The mandatory assessment for this course is an individual written exam conducted on campus via Digital Exam (using ANS). The exam is closed book; only a calculator and a pen are permitted. Dictionaries are not allowed.

In addition to the mandatory exam, students may earn up to 0.5 bonus points by completing a voluntary mid-term quiz. The quiz is offered once and cannot be retaken.

For students who do not pass the regular exam, a resit opportunity will be scheduled. Detailed information and scheduling for both the regular and resit exams will be available in OSIRIS. For both exams, students will have the opportunity to review their graded work in person at a time arranged by the lecturer(s).

To pass the course, students must achieve a minimum final grade of 5.8. The final grade is calculated as the sum of the exam grade and any bonus points earned from the mid-term quiz (maximum 0.5 points):
Final grade = Exam grade + Bonus points (from the mid-term quiz).

Important notes:

1. The mid-term quiz is voluntary and may only be attempted once. Students who miss the quiz will not have a second opportunity to complete it.

2. If a student does not participate in the mid-term quiz, their final grade will be based solely on the exam grade.

3. For the resit exam, bonus points from the mid-term quiz will only be applied to students whose exam grade is very close to the passing threshold of 5.8. That is, bonus points will not be added for students who score above 5.8 on the re-exam.

4. Only the final grade will be entered in OSIRIS.
