Fundamentals of Mechanical Analysis
Beschrijving
In this course, the students will acquire the basic know-how to formulate the equations describing the mechanical behaviour of continuous media. Mathematical tools, namely tensor algebra and tensor calculus will be described. Subsequently, kinematics in a geometrically non-linear setting will be discussed in detail along with Eulerian and Lagrangian descriptions. Non-linear stress measures will be used to formulate conservation of mass, linear and angular momentum. The course contents are the foundation of mechanical analysis.
Toetsing
The examination will be as follows: written exam on campus. In case of unforeseen circumstances or measures resulting from COVID-19, the prescribed assessment will be: an open-book online exam with fraud prevention measures or proctoring.
