Precision Mechanism Design
Beschrijving
This course focuses on cultivating a new design mindset among students and equipping them with advanced skills in mechanisms theories. The goal is to enable students to effectively analyze complex real-life problems and extract their essential elements. Through this course, students will develop the expertise needed to construct the next generation of precision machines.
In this course, students apply advanced mechanics concepts to a real world design assignment, provided by industry. Students perform conceptual, detailed and critical design steps, all within a systems engineering context. In this process, students develop the capacity to identify problematic areas, generate diverse design alternatives, and make informed design decisions.
Key principles explored throughout the course include designing lightweight and rigid mechanisms, achieving precise kinematic constraints, creating low-hysteresis mechanisms, and designing precision manipulators.
