Equipment for Heat and Mass Transfer

Rating and sizing of heat and mass transfer equipment such as heat exchangers, distillation, absorption, tripping, crystallization, adsorption, extraction and membrane separations will be covered. In particular:

• classification of various separation and heat transfer processes,

• the separation efficiency in single and multi-stage processes (and the influence of the process conditions and contacting modes on the separation).

• design procedures of different separation processes based on limitations of the thermodynamic equilibria.

• quantification of the influence of process condition on the design procedures of different separation processes based on limitations of the thermodynamic equilibria.

• characteristics of equipment for various separation processes

• the role of mass transfer in the sizing and design of the separation equipment.

• methods for the design and dimensioning of separation equipment.

• the use of computer tools for the design of heat exchangers and separation processes
