Intelligent Operations and Maintenance for Transport and Production

This course focuses on the intelligent operational control to improve the efficiency, maintain the reliability and maximize the productivity of multi-machine systems in large-scale transport and production domain. Along with the understanding of diverse transport systems and production process, including the dynamic interactions of the equipment and facilities involved, the control for the multi-machine systems contains two folds, the intelligent decision-making and integrated control for optimizing operational performance at both equipment level and system level. Technologies and methodologies of sensors and automated data acquisition, remote communication, intelligent data analysis and integrated operational decision-making will be studied. In combination with on-line techniques for monitoring the health of the sensors, advanced maintenance strategies will be broadly discussed. Industrial case studies will be given to present the state-of-the-art development and foreseen challenges. The course concludes with practical assignments where intelligent operations and maintenance systems will be researched and conceptually designed.
Toetsing
Group assignment: Assignment Reports & Oral Exam.
Final grade is calculated by weighted average of Assignment Part I (75%) and Assignment Part II (25%). In case of a final grade less than 6, the group can have one opportunity to Repair or Resubmit the insufficient work via one of the two modalities:
1. Repair: to improve the work of the same assignment towards a maximum resit grade of 6;
2. Resubmit: to choose a new assignment to be assessed by the general assessment criteria towards a resit grade higher than 6.
After successful submission of the group Assignment Reports, Oral Exam will take place in the exam week of the education period.
In case of late submission after the deadline or missing one of the Assignment Reports, the grade of the group will be 0 and no oral exam will be conducted. The group may resit the course by submitting the Assignment Reports before the end of the academic year towards a maximum resit grade of 6.
