Beschrijving

Understand fundamental theory of finite element method and identify various failure mechanisms of metallic structure and its connection with relevant design standards. Design a ship-shore crane according to the Dutch Standards (NEN 2017 to 2023) and control your design with the use of a finite element model (Femap and SDC Verifier)

This course is a continuation of the original course ME44105 and wb3416 Design with FEM

Software used is:

SDC Verifier ( www.sdeverifier.com ) and

FEMAP ( https://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/store/en-se/femap/index.html )

Toetsing

The assessment consists of two parts- practical part and theoretical part.

The practical part will be assessed through an oral exam of 1/2 hour on the final structural design report. The report contains the complete description of the structural design, the design specification and the translation of these specification into loads the design, and the final result of the FEA calculation. The FEA results should prove that the crane is structural save by complying with the design standard to be used.

The theoretical part will be assessed based on a regular, closed book written exam. Detail information will be announced on Bright space in due time.

The practical part and the theoretical part account for 75% and 25% of final grade respectively. Both parts are compulsory. To pass the course, the minimum grade for a both parts is a 5.0.
