Reimagining Mobility

Reimagining Mobility is a 3rd-year elective design course for IDE undergraduates that explores how to envision meaningful mobility solutions across product, service, and societal-system levels. Students learn to harmonize human needs with diverse transportation modalities through an iterative design process.

This course is ideal for students interested in mobility, equipping them with:

• Domain knowledge of the mobility sector across different innovation scales,

• The ability to apply design mindsets and skills acquired from prior coursework to real-world mobility challenges,

• The capability to design user-centered mobility concepts for people in transit and stakeholders in the broader mobility ecosystem.

The course also prepares students for future master-level projects and helps them define their role as design professionals addressing mobility-related societal challenges.

1. Mid-term Presentation – Formative Assessment

Each student team delivers a 10-minute presentation during lecture hours to their coach and peer teams within their coaching group. The presentation focuses on:

• Demonstrating understanding of the current mobility context

• Defining what constitutes “meaningful mobility” in their chosen direction

• Building on work from week 1 to 4 lectures and coaching:

This presentation supports Learning Objective 1 and is intended for feedback and improvement—no grades will be assigned.

2. Final Showcase & Digital Advertorial – Summative Assessment (100%)

At the end of the course, student teams will present their final mobility concepts in the form of a digital advertorial, which may include:

• Concise written narratives

• Visual materials (e.g., prototypes, frameworks, brochures, or videos)

• Supporting design tools and storytelling elements

The final showcase is presented to classmates and faculty mentors/coaches, and is assessed against Learning Objectives 1, 2, 3, and 4.

All team members will receive the same grade unless unequal contributions are reported. To ensure fairness:

• For teams flagged for unequal contribution, each student will be required to submit a brief individual reflection outlining their personal contribution to the project.

• In cases of significant discrepancy in contributions, individual grades may be adjusted accordingly.
