Qualitative Research Methods for Strategic Design

This is a theme course related to SPD themes 1 and 2.
This course teaches students qualitative research techniques in relation to Strategic Design. This includes interviews, focus groups, case study methodology, action research, ethnography. Students practise with applying the methodologies to a real research topic as proposed by researchers in our faculty. Students can choose a topic. The research topics will be related to one of the two themes (Tech-enabled innovation or Social and Sustainable Innovation), so that students can keep deepening within their knowledge area of interest. The course supports students in applying and understanding scientific research methods so they can (1) successfully perform qualitative research projects by themselves, and (2) critically evaluate the relevance and value of outcomes of qualitative research.
This course will teach students how to design a research plan, how to collect data, how to analyse data and how to communicate the research results.
