Foresight and Backcasting

This is an SPD programme course.

Time is of strategic importance in understanding, leveraging and influencing socio-technical transitions. Recent research in the field of strategic design indicates an important shift from anticipating and coping with the future towards future making and designing foresights. This course takes a particular interest in collectively designing and imagining foresights by expressing and materializing future visions in strategic practice. In this course you will learn and practice methods and techniques of visual foresight research, designing future visions and back-casting by a strategic design roadmap. You will develop analytical, envisioning, and modelling skills vis-a-vis providing strategic support for organizations to innovate along meaningful pathways (future literacy, exploratory mindset en imagination, and responsible design en engagement).
