Beschrijving

This is a theme course of IPD theme 2: Sustainable Design.

Design Approaches for Sustainability allows students to explore and apply 3 state-of-the-art sustainable design approaches: Circular Design, Transition design, Biomimicry. Students will learn how the different approaches work and apply them to a case. They will analyse and evaluate the differences in the approaches and outcomes for sustainability. The final objective is for students to learn what approaches will lead to what type of outcomes, and to know when to apply which approach. We offer this elective because designers can use different strategies to develop sustainable products, but creating a truly beneficial product is a challenge.

Toetsing

The attainment of the LO’s will be assessed with two summative assessments:

-        60% A group poster presentation demonstrating the results of the design process and application (LO 1,3). Conference-style A2 poster s+ group verbal presentation.

-        40% An individual assignment demonstrating the students ability to critically apply, adapt, and reflect on the design approaches for sustainability. By means of a 2-pager tool extension/improvement.

Students can miss a maximum of 2 contact moments.
