Beschrijving

This is a theme course of IPD theme 1: Digital Design and AI.

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of Intelligent Industrial Systems (IIS) that leverage, sensing technologies, AI, and Extended Reality (XR) to augment the perceptual and cognitive capacities of humans in industrial settings, following the principles of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

IIS refers to advanced technological solutions that combine AI with interactive user interfaces (UIs) to create dynamic, adaptive, and user-centric applications in industrial settings. Interacting with intelligent systems can be multimodal, multisensory and immersive, including touch-based, voice-based and text-based interactions with physical, visual, neural and virtual interfaces. Thoughtfully crafted intelligent industrial systems consider the user’s perceptual and cognitive abilities and limitations, improve decision-making, increase productivity, facilitate knowledge sharing, enhance memory recall, prolong attention, and upgrade user experience (UX). In this course, students will demonstrate how IIS can enhance human abilities in workplace contexts such as healthcare, manufacturing, and the energy sector.

Toetsing

The study goals of this course will be assessed by:

  • Group Paper and Presentation (50%)

  • Individual exam (50%)

Formative Assessment

  • Weekly Quizzes: Students will self-assess their knowledge based on a set of multiple-choice knowledge questions (LO1).

  • Group Papers: Students will have the chance to request feedback on the progress of their group papers weekly during the workshops (LO2 & LO3).

  • Workshops: Students will have the opportunity to perform activities, experience and assess advanced technologies and IIS prototypes firsthand in the classroom during the workshops (LO4).

Summative Assessment

  • Individual Exam (50 %) assessing the comprehension of Intelligent Industrial Systems, their fundamentals, theories, and principles (LO1).

  • Group Paper and Presentations (50 %) assessing the ability to demonstrate, apply and evaluate IIS at the end of the course (LO2, LO3, LO4).
