Systemic Automotive Design
Beschrijving
This elective belongs to our faculty's strategic research theme Mobility. Automotive Design is no longer solely about personal vehicle design. Automotive Design is about applying its specific knowledge to mobility design in its full width, to rebalance individual wants and collective needs. We synthesise this tacit automotive design knowledge with the predominantly rational design paradigm of public mobility.
In this elective, you will unravel the complexity of future mobility and society, to understand what meaningful mobility solutions are.
By analysing and visualising THE CONTEMPORARY MOBILITY SYSTEM, you will identify what is relevant in today's context and identify your own position in the holistic system i.e., act as a systemic designer. You will develop a sense of urgency to explore what is appropriate within a future context.
For that future context, you design an ADVANCED FUTURE CONCEPT VEHICLE, which is derived from your long-term future vision. How will mobility develop, and how should it be experienced? What is your future's personal, public, or shared vehicle's reason for being? From there, you must design an INTERMEDIATE VEHICLE that bridges contemporary mobility to the advanced future concept.
Toetsing
The study goals of this course will be assessed by:
- Individual assessment 1 (50%)
- Individual assessment 2 (50%)
Study load is spread evenly along the course, guided by the context driven design process. The coherence throughout between analyses, storytelling, and manifestation, is fundamental.
Weekly coaching project criteria will be informally and through dialogue addressed in class.
Two individual summative assessments: an annotated presentation during week 5 addresses the "storytelling" aspect of the design project, and a presentation plus final visual in week 10, which assesses the manifestation i.e. the design.
