eHealth Design for a Healthy Society

eHealth is often top-down technology-driven which has serious drawbacks on its uptake, adherence and its contribution to health disparities. This course counters the tech-push by taking a human-centered approach and has as overarching topic:

'How a human-centered approach of eHealth design can facilitate a healthy society'.

In the course, you will learn about the theory of eHealth, you will learn about methods to design eHealth and you will use this theoretical and design knowledge to create an eHealth vision and, in collaboration with a stakeholder, an eHealth concept.

For the course assignment, students will work in small teams (2 - 4) to:

- Be introduced to their eHealth client (e.g. company or research group) and a specific design brief.

- Perform a critical analysis of the client's eHealth.

- Create a stakeholder map, user journey, user profile, use scenario, design concept and a vision

- Present, at different moments in the course, the concept and vision to fellow students for peer feedback, to stakeholders, to supervisors.

During the course interactive lectures will be provided on the following two perspectives:

- eHealth design & healthy society (public health, health disparities, health philosophy)

- eHealth design & healthy behavior (health journeys, health motivation, health interaction)

The lectures will be given by guest experts and faculty experts. After each lecture, students will discuss with the expert the relevance of the topic to their health design project. Following these expert discussion, students will receive formative feedback on their project by the course supervise team.

This course follows upon the elective "Design in Health: Theory en Practice" and is recommended for Medisign students.
