Design in Health: Theory en Practice

Healthcare systems are complex. They involving diverse, interacting organisations, stakeholders, professionals and patients. In addition, the healthcare system is shaped by many rules and regulations put in place to reduce risk and increase ethical treatment and care. Developing healthcare products or services can therefore pose challenges that require specific design skills and sensibilities.
This course offers expert and beginner designers an opportunity to dive into different healthcare domains, explore complementary perspectives on design for health, practise with different research techniques and design methods, and reflect on their role as Medisign engineers.
Topics covered include (amongst others):
The healthcare ecosystem including the roles of different stakeholders.
The role(s) of design(ers) within healthcare.
Regulatory requirements for developing medical devices.
Risk analysis & designing for safety.
(Design) research in clinical settings.
Ethics in medical (design) research
This course is highly recommended for all students following the Medisign specialisation.
