Beschrijving

This course advances the students' knowledge of, and skills in visualization principles, methodologies and techniques, aligned to pedagogic goals. This course offers a variety of tracks to choose from.

Besides bringing knowledge and skills to a higher level, the course also broadens the students' knowledge of visualization and offers methodologies and techniques that are highly relevant for exploring and expressing design ideas and/ or concepts.

It covers a wide range of theories and topics concerning sketching and visualization.

Theory

The course addresses the visualisation components that concern the exploration of thoughts (sketching as thinking), communication with stakeholders, imagination, and the promotion/ facilitation of collaboration, aligned to pedagogic goals. The theoretic element will be offered through literature, deepening lectures, instructions and optional excursions. The integration of theory connects theory of visualisation with the teaching and applying of visualisation knowledge and skills.

Tracks

The individual tracks concern different design areas, and will concern mostly generative practical exercises, active learning while guided by experts. Each track will have a clear relation with the specific field of application and specifc cases.

Track topics concern e.g.: the human factor en interaction; visual creativity techniques; visualisation of mobility concepts; advanced design sketching (subject to change).

Students will work with both analogue and digital tools and develop their understanding of generating visual depictions of complex objects, environments and people.

Possible topics include:

Theory:

Spatiality,

viewpoints and perspectives,

rendering,

light-dark (Chiaroscuro),

Materials: properties and behaviour

Colour theory

Agency of sketching; methodology;

Psychology of sketching;

Psychology of perception;

Skills:

Development of motor skills,

Advanced creativity- and ideation techniques;

Visual exploration;

The human factor;

Human-product Interaction;

Visualization for mobility (systems)
