The Geomatics in Practice Elective provides an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills obtained in the first year of Geomatics for the Built Environment in practice. The Internship must have an academic character. There is no formal start date or end date, you can start any time provided you have completed at least 30 ECTS of Geomatics core subjects. The internship should last at least 280 hours, i.e., seven weeks on a full-time basis, or an equivalent period on a part-time basis, e.g., 14 weeks 20 hours/week.

BEFORE YOU START:

When you have found an internship at a suitable academic level, you should submit an Internship Proposal form (maximum 800 words) via Brightspace, stating:

1. Your name, study number, email address, and completed geomatics core courses

2. Short description of the company (max 1 paragraph)

3. Name, affiliation, and qualifications of the supervisor at the company/organization (your Workplace Supervisor)

4. Name, and affiliation of proposed geomatics tutor (your Geomatics Supervisor)

5. Title / Topic of the work you will carry out, objected achievements, and deliverables to the organization

6. Motivation for why you want to carry out this work and indication of how it will contribute to your geomatics knowledge and skills

7. Indication of the academic level of the work you will carry out (e.g., design, data integration, modeling, assessment) and whether individual or as part of a team

8. Location of where you will be doing the activities (if partially working from home, please indicate the percentage of time working on location and working from home)

9. Time planning: start data + finish date + no. of hours per week

Please involve your Geomatics Supervisor when you draft your internship proposal. The Geomatics Supervisor may be any person connected to the Geomatics programme with sufficient knowledge of your chosen topic.

When you submit your Internship Proposal via Brightspace, please inform the GEO5016 Coordinator by e-mail of your submission. The GEO5016 Coordinator will assess your Internship Proposal for suitability for the Geomatics programme. A GO will be granted when the internship Coordinator is satisfied that the proposed topic and activities are suitable for the Geomatics Programme and at MSc level, i.e., there has to be an academic challenge. This means that you have to work towards tackling a problem, working with complex and heterogeneous data, or developing a model or something similar, either individually or as part of a team. So, just carrying out activities according to fixed protocols without a personal contribution is not sufficient. Without a GO, you are not allowed to start this internship. Do not forget to enroll in GEO5016 Geomatics in Practice, Aanvangsblok: JAAR.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE A GO:

Submit a UNL Internship Agreement, signed by you and your Workplace Supervisor, to J.vanOs@tudelft.nl with a cc to the GEO5016 Coordinator. The Internship Agreement form can be downloaded in Dutch and English from https://www.universiteitenvannederland.nl/onderwerpen/onderwijs/gemeenschappelijke-stageovereenkomst-universiteiten.

DURING YOUR INTERNSHIP:

Carry out your internship activities and absorb as much practical experience as you can!

AFTER YOUR INTERNSHIP:

  • Submit your internship assessment form to your workplace supervisor for assessment of your professional skills no later than 1 week after completion of your internship (30% of the final mark)

  • Submit your Internship Report and internship assessment form to your Geomatics Supervisor with a cc to the GEO5016 Coordinator no later than 4 weeks after completion of your internship.

  • Make an appointment with your Geomatics Supervisor to discuss your report and to gain an assessment mark (70% of the final mark).
