This equivalency course replaces the following course from the old master programme: CIE5702. It is equivalent to parts of the module ENVM1600 in the new MSc Environmental Engineering programme. Please see the study guide description of ENVM1600 and the information below. Please contact the responsible lecturer at the start of the module for registration and additional information.
This course deals with the design of water and wastewater treatment plants. We will discuss theory and develop a conceptual designed.
Water treatment is needed to provide humans with water of sufficient quality to use it safely for purposes ranging from drinking to industry and to avoid pollution of the living environment.
In this course you will select a design case and learn how to design a water treatment plant for either groundwater, surface water, municipal sewage or industrial water.
The project work is accompanied by a lecture series covering elements of your design such as:
Techno-economical evaluation
How to design your water treatment plant
Up/down scaling from lab results / to full-scale
Ethics, choices and responsibility
Dimensioning and control
