Industry Water

This course will not be offered in 2025-2026. Too few students preregistered for the course by the registration deadline (April 23rd, 2025).

Introduction into industrial classification, industrial symbiosis, water footprint, BAT reference documents;

• Water intensive industries, including mining, chemical, textile, steel, paper, food and drinks;

• Water intensive processes, including steam production and use, cleaning in place, cooling;

• Water and energy, including water-energy nexus, heat recovery;

• Water treatment technologies, including biological and physicochemical technologies;

• Corrosion, scaling and fouling: interactions, prevention and mitigation;

• Safety, ethics and risk assessment;

• Modelling of corrosion and scaling;

• Water use and reuse in selected companies: analyzing real cases and proposing solutions.

In this module a large variety of water qualities will be considered, ranging from ultra-pure water (e.g. makeup water for steam boilers) to concentrated residual water (e.g. brines from membrane filtration).
