Groundwater modelling

Beschrijving

This course is a part of ENVM1602-24 Regional Hydrology, but it can be followed as a separate elective. Please contact the instructor in case you are interested in taking this course as a separate elective.

Students learn how to model groundwater systems. Different modeling approaches are applied in exercises to assess the environmental impact of man-made changes in the geohydrological system.

Topics include:

  • The analytic element method and the finite difference method (including MODFLOW).

  • Comparison of grid-based methods and analytical methods.

  • Design of well fields including capture zones and wellhead protection

  • Pumping test analysis

  • Travel times

  • Time series analysis of groundwater time series.

  • Prediction of groundwater heads in wet and dry periods.

Toetsing

Modeling Assignments are grades as part of the student's portfolio.

A successful completion of the course requires a minimum grade of 5,8. For more information on grading, see article 14 in the Rules and Guidelines (RGBE):
