This course will introduce students to system architecture, basic principles, and building blocks of electric power generation from renewable energy sources. Starting with an overview of modern energy systems, it covers various types of power electronics converters that enable the energy transition towards a more sustainable future. Furthermore, students will learn how to estimate the potential of renewable energy sources to meet humanity's energy consumption using the physical principles of energy generation and consumption. After taking the course, students can analyze, model, simulate, and operate power electronics-based energy systems and acquire the fundamentals to design/size them.
