Beschrijving

In electrical engineering, solid-state materials play an essential role in many applications. A thorough understanding of the basic quantum mechanics and electrical and physical properties of semiconductors, metals and insulators are essential for design/fabrication of new electronic devices and circuits, such as, field-effect transistors, solar-cells, light emitting diodes, sensors and quantum computer devices. After introduction of IC fabrication process, the course starts with the crystallography and then will be followed by the quantum mechanics, the quantum theory of solid, semiconductor physics. In short, you will be acquainted with the properties of individual atoms and what happens when they meet and become the form of a solid. If the solid-state physics are thoroughly understood, the physics of the semiconductor devices for IC, photovoltaic, LED, sensors and quantum computer can be understood efficiently.
